These events are designed to give public health professionals and clinical commissioners the opportunity to plan how best to work together as local authorities take on new public health responsibilities and CCGs work toward authorisation.
Delegates will hear from expert speakers and national policy leads as well as having time to network with peers from other parts of the country. The events are free to attend for NHS Confederation members and associates, and you can choose from two dates:

The programme will focus on the practical issues facing colleagues in PCTs, CCGs and local government over the coming months. Speakers and delegates will share ideas about how public health professionals can best support CCGs in authorisation process, as they work to:
- develop clear and credible plans which continue to deliver the QIPP (quality, innovation, productivity and prevention) challenge within financial resources, in line with national outcome standards and local joint health and wellbeing strategies;
- establish collaborative arrangements for commissioning with other CCGs, local authorities and the NHS Commissioning Board as well as securing appropriate external commissioning support
- understand the role of the NHS Commissioning Board in commissioning public health services (£2.2 billion of the £5.2 billion public health budget) such as screening and immunisation
The events will provide an opportunity to understand more about how the public health offer to CCGs will work, what support CCGs need most and how the CCGs, local authorities and the NHS Commissioning board will work together in terms of commissioning public health and health services.
If effective commissioning of public health interventions by local authorities can strengthen uptake of prevention and health promotion initiatives, bring down hospital admission rates, and support demand management, clinical commissioning groups will be able to transform care pathways more efficiently and improve overall health outcomes.
The public health outcomes framework and factsheets detailing the new public health system have recently been published. These and other key resources will be made available to delegates to discuss at the events with the individuals leading the work on public health transition for the NHS Commissioning Board.
