The European funding environment is complex and at times difficult to navigate. One of the roles of the European Office is to highlight funding opportunities and to provide information and advice about accessing this EU funding. .
What are the benefits for NHS organisations of participating in EU projects?
Many NHS organsiations already benefit from EU collaboration, but there is scope for much greater involvement.
Participation in a project can:
• complement local NHS initiatives with European Commission
match-funding
• improve service delivery through information-sharing and the
exchange of good practice with European partners
• develop pan-European research networks
• benchmark and compare NHS practice with partners from other
EU member states
• showcase the organisation’s achievements in a specific field or topic to international colleagues
• profile local, regional and national NHS innovations at international events
• attract world-class researchers to the organisation.
Collaboration across borders: European funding opportunities for the NHS
In response to feedback from NHS colleagues, the European Office has produced a publication which provides NHS organisations with information and guidance on the range of European funding and networking opportunities that exist.
This publication provides an overview of the health topics funded by the EU, discusses the benefits of engaging with an EU programme and gives advice on how NHS organisations can access the various European funding opportunities.
How to promote active ageing in Europe: EU support to local and regional actors
The European Commission and partners have published a brochure presenting EU funding possibilities for regional and local initiatives to promote active ageing. The majority of initiatives to promote active ageing – throughout 2012 and onwards – will be taken without financial support from the EU, but in some cases EU funding will play a role.
The brochure highlights what resources are available and invites regional and local stakeholders to make the best possible use of them, preferably working in partnerships involving several countries. The publication contains numerous examples of projects which have received EU funding. It also includes short presentations of the most relevant EU funding programmes to support new active ageing projects. You can access the brochure here.
