The Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland's published guidelines on inter-hospital transfers in February makes a number of references to ambulance services.
Section 4 of the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI)’s published guidelines on inter-hospital transfers notes that most transfers are in an ambulance by road.
Section 6 sets out the situations when a paramedic may need to accompany the patient during the transfer and section 8 focuses on the ambulance service including the AAGBI's concerns about facilities such as the standard ambulance trolley being ill suited to patient transfers.
The AAGBI's recommendations to improve the transfer system include better training standards for personnel undertaking transfers and a reduction in transfer for non-clinical reasons.
