Rose Bowl, Leeds Metropolitan Conferencing
The ASN held the first of two meetings for ASN member non-executive directors (NEDs) on Wednesday 14 July in Leeds. Delegates had the opportunity to hear from speakers on key topical subjects and participate in the debates. These included:
- The White Paper
The presentation considered the policy proposals and their implications, and issues for ambulance services to consider in areas such as GP commissioning, the role of the NHS Commissioning Board, the role of Monitor and the CQC and the continued focus on ‘Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP)’.
- Commissioning and the ambulance services
This looked at the issues for services to focus on in the coming months particularly in light of the proposed commissioning changes.
- Francis Inquiry into the care provided by Mid- Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust - ‘what will this mean for your service?’
Amongst the issues considered were ‘what is good governance?’, the connections between ward and board and the need for boards to be aware of clinical risk.
- Ambulance service and the public health agenda.
The presentation considered the role of the ambulance services in delivering public health and the concept of the ‘Chain of Survival Partnership’ covering primary prevention to critical intervention.
