Introduction
Over the nine years that the Ward Managers Development Programme (WMDP) has been running - initially in London and the South and latterly for the North and Midlands - it has changed and developed in response to the new challenges and needs of the Ward Managers and Team Leaders in mental health services.
The programme focuses upon the development of the individual within the context of their role and the three main strands are:
- Understanding Self
- Understanding Teams
- Understanding Organisations.
Programme purpose
The programme has the following aims:
- To extend understanding of self and the impact on others;
- To enhance skills related to team working and managing a team;
- To support ward managers and team leaders to develop their leadership styles and skills;
- To explore career development and the future;
- To understand and experience coaching and its impact on self and on others.
Programme presentation
A variety of different methods are used to enhance the learning experience, these include: psychometric tests, role play, games, discussion, inspirational speakers (tbc) and coaching. It is expected that all participants take part actively and contribute fully to gain the best experience.
