The Health Foundation is looking for teams to Shine

21/07/2010
Shine is the Health Foundation's flagship innovation programme to help healthcare practitioners try out their ideas to improve care in a way that can be measured and proven. Each year Shine sets a different challenge for the UK health service.

Sky and sunshineIn the current financial climate, cost reductions are now a key focus for healthcare organisations. By stimulating fresh thinking, ideas and action among healthcare practitioners, the Shine challenge asks the health service to explore and test innovative approaches that demonstrate it is possible to improve quality while saving costs.

The Shine challenge for 2011 is to find new approaches to delivering healthcare that reduce the need for acute hospital care, while improving quality and saving money.

How can Shine help you and your team?

Shine is looking for examples of smart thinking from across the health service, including the voluntary sector. For their part, Shine will;

•    provide the resource to test and evaluate ideas
•    ensure that successful innovations have a platform for national recognition
•    promote the most effective innovations to policy-makers and NHS leaders.

The programme is looking to invest £75,000 in each of up to 18 projects.

What is Shine looking for?
New ideas, not just the adoption of good practice that has been tried elsewhere.
You’ll need a great innovative idea combined with the ability to pull together a team with experience in innovation, change management, measurement and evaluation. You will need to deliver results within the 12 month period of the project.

Key dates
Shine is now open for applications. The closing date for completed applications is 12 noon, Monday 4 October 2010.
