Skills and capacity building

The SDO Network is working with partners in the NHS and academia to build the skills and capacity of managers to interpret and utilise health services research.

Critical appraisal skills training for NHS managers

The SDO Network is working with partners in the NHS and academia to run critical appraisal skills training to build the health services research literacy and capacity of NHS managers and their organisations.

In 2011 the SDO Network is working with the East of England’s Evidence Adoption Centre to deliver a series of foundation and advanced level critical appraisal workshops in the East of England. The aims of the workshops include enabling participants to apply the principles of evidence-based practice in health care settings; to identify, critically appraise and incorporate the results of research into practice and commissioning decisions; and to plan how to implement the findings of research into practice to improve health care.

Identifying training opportunities and learning from others

The SDO Network aims to connect managers with critical appraisal skills training opportunities across the NHS. The SDO Network is currently working on mapping existing training opportunities, so that NHS managers can quickly pin point training in their region and elsewhere.

The SDO Network is keen to learn more about critical appraisal skills training and other services offered to staff by NHS organisations and their partners.
