Find out more and get involved.

Leadership for race equality
The director of a race equality thinktank called on NHS leaders to talk about leadership for race equality, at a reception for the NHS Confederation's Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) leadership forum.

Runnymede Trust director Rob Berkeley was speaking at the forum’s forth annual reception during the NHS Confederation’s annual conference, hosted by NHS Employers head of equality and diversity Professor Carol Baxter CBE.

Crucial time for leadership

At a time when race inequality still remains prevalent in areas such as sexual and mental health and life expectancy, Rob said that BME leadership, representation and leveraging the skills and experience of BME leaders, was crucial.

Scope for more BME representation

Sir Keith Pearson, chair of the NHS Confederation, highlighted that the new NHS structures provide senior BME staff, via the clinical commissioning groups, with a key opportunity to influence and bring about change. The forum, currently recruiting for a new chair, will support the appointee to be a national leader of the BME agenda.
