Shifting the balance

The Welsh NHS Confederation conference and exhibition is the only event that brings senior leaders, decision-makers, stakeholders and partners from every corner of the Welsh health and care system together under one roof.

The conference comes at a key time, following the publication of the programme for Government, the commencement of a Parliamentary Review of the long term future of health and social care in Wales and the end of the current NHS strategy “Together for Health”.

Our theme for the conference is “Shifting the Balance” reflecting the strategic direction of travel towards primary and community care, ill-health prevention and integration with non NHS services. In line with Prudent Healthcare a sustainable health and care system in Wales will also be dependent on shifting the balance between the role of the state and that of individuals and communities. In the future we need to build more collaborative relationships with the public, our patients, our staff and our partners and the conference will explore the challenges ahead, including the shape of the workforce, investment in prevention and involving patients in the design of services.

The programme

Through plenary sessions, keynote speeches and practical breakout sessions this year’s programme we will address key questions such as:

  • How do we go about moving from a health system that identifies and treats illness to one that can focus more on early intervention and prevention?
  • How can we make sure that, in the future, people’s needs are met in the right way, at the right time and in the right place?
  • How can the NHS play its part in a whole-scale shift in public services?

Conference dinner

Our popular conference dinner will take place the evening before the full event (Tuesday 31st Jan) at the Bayside Brasserie. This will provide a valuable opportunity to engage and network with fellow leaders from across the Welsh health and care sector in a relaxed and informal setting. This year we will be joined by ex-Wales rugby international, extreme environment athlete and TV presenter Richard Parks as our after dinner speaker. Please book your seat at dinner when you book your place at the conference.
