Responding to the government’s response to the rapid review into data on mental health inpatient settings Sean Duggan, chief executive of the NHS Confederation’s Mental Health Network, said:

“Mental health leaders are committed to ensuring the safety and dignity of those who need inpatient care but know there is more that can be done. The rapid review report’s recommendations provide an opportunity for this and we welcome the government’s support for the vast majority of the review’s recommendations.

“But many of the recommendations will require additional resources, and we hope that the government recognises this and will provide the sector what it needs to implement these.

“We know that improved use of data is a particular opportunity to improve quality of services, but are concerned that the national digital support available for mental health providers is being reduced.

“I look forward to working with government and wider NHS as part of the ministerial steering committee responsible for driving forward the recommendations to make the improvements.”
