Sir Robert Naylor sets out recommendations for better use of the NHS estate

Central to realising the ambition of the Five Year Forward View is the NHS estate. Sir Robert Naylor’s report sets out a new direction of strategy for NHS estates in England. The report recommends a robust capital investment plan for the NHS by the coming summer and explores three potential sources for this estimated funding gap of £10bn: property disposal, private investment (for primary care) and public funding.

Select Committee suggests the CQC should take on the oversight of adult social care commissioning

This report summarises the findings of the House of Commons Communities and Local Government Committee enquiry on adult social care. It makes a number of recommendations for government, local authorities and others, in order to turn social care around. The report is clear that while additional funding for social care is welcome, it falls short of the amount needed to close the funding gap.

Primary Care Home evaluated by the National Association of Primary Care

Primary Care Home (PCH) is a model of primary care that has been developed to address the triple aim of improved health and wellbeing, transformed quality of care delivery and sustainable finances. The model has been trialled in 15 rapid test bed sites which were selected in December 2015. This report looks at the achievements of three of the test bed sites.

Nuffield report shows ambulance services under increasing pressure

Although more than extra 2500 staff have joined the ambulance service in the last two years, morale amongst frontline staff is lagging. Ambulance staff report feeling less satisfied with their management than non-emergency colleagues, and more work will need to be done to engage them.

Researchers examine the relationship between policing and health costs

This research in the British Journal of Psychiatry looks at the relationship between policing and health costs in mental health patients. It finds lower policing costs for those in contact with a care team for longer than two months at the point of police contact. It recommends improved care through street triage, MHA assessments and link worker provision, although concedes that all of these carry increased costs.

The King's Fund examines public satisfaction with the NHS and social care

This report analyses data from the British Social Attitudes Survey, measuring patient satisfaction with a range of public health services. While satisfaction has risen by three percent on 2015, the report finds that this is not statistically significant. Crucially, it notes negative net public satisfaction with social care services
