The Queen outlined her government’s legislative programme for the next two years on 21 June.

  • The government’s legislative programme did not include Conservative Party manifesto commitments to introduce a new Mental Health Act or to reform legislation relating to the regulation of healthcare professions. There was also no mention of making legislative changes to the internal market if they were deemed necessary after a review.
  • The only directly health-related new legislation to be announced was a Draft Patient Safety Bill.
  • Reform of existing legislation for mental health and consultation on social care reforms was announced along with commitments to increase the National Living Wage and balance the UK’s budget by 2025.
  • Eight of the 21 bills announced were Brexit related.
