It is important to make type 2 diabetes remission a treatment goal, rather than viewing it as a chronic condition that inevitably worsens over time and requires lifelong medication.

The charity Public Health Collaboration has developed a programme called The Lifestyle Club (TLC) to provide structured education for individuals with type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes. This programme aims to make diabetes remission achievable for everyone with the condition. Developed in collaboration with X-PERT Health and based on the work of Dr David Unwin, TLC focuses on a low-carb approach. Dr Unwin has used the low-carb approach in his surgery for over 12 years, achieving remission rates of 51 per cent and saving £68,000 each year on each year on diabetes medication.
