With new cases soaring, we can all take simple steps to curb COVID spread
Commenting on the latest test and trace figures, Layla McCay, director of policy at the NHS Confederation, said: "As new cases of COVID-19 continue to soar, with almost 260,000 people testing positive in the most recent week, it's clear there is still a part for everyone to play to help curb the spread.
"While the vaccination programme has helped weaken the link between infection, serious illness and death, that risk is still present, so we can all do our part by making the choice to take small, simple steps, like wearing face masks, keeping up with hand hygiene, meeting outdoors, and social distancing, to keep ourselves and others safe. It is also important that everyone be supported to isolate when required to do so. As cases rise, the proportion of people who have been reached to provide their close contacts has started to fall, so taking personal actions that reduce the risk of transmission is even more important.
"With some estimates suggesting new cases could hit 200,000 a day, the NHS Confederation has launched its #NotTooMuchToMask campaign. Alongside a range of other bodies, we are encouraging the public to continue to make sensible choices and give confidence to those who already intend to act in this way now that it is no longer mandated.”
