Dame Marie Gabriel
Dame Marie Gabriel has spent a dedicated 45-year career spanning local government and the voluntary sector with expertise in delivering equity, regeneration and social justice.
With over 20 years of board level experience in the NHS, Dame Marie Gabriel was appointed as the founding Chair of the independent NHS Race and Health Observatory, a role held since its formation in 2020. Dame Marie is also the Chair of the NHS North East London ICB, the second largest Integrated Health and Care System in England.
Regionally, Dame Marie Gabriel is Co-Chair of the London People Board and a member of the Greater London Authority’s London Health Board. Internationally, she has worked with the Institute of Healthcare Improvement, focusing on the Board’s role in quality improvement and has also chaired mental health and commissioning organisations with budgets of up to £3bn.
In 2018, Marie was awarded CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours and later made Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in His Majesty the King’s 2025 New Year’s Honours, recognised for her services to health and equality.
