Clinical Director, Nottingham City General Practice Alliance

Dr Husein Mawji qualified in 1998 from St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London School of Medicine & Dentistry. He initially undertook general surgical training in the North-East of England, before relocating to Nottingham and pursuing a career in General Practice. He has worked at the Victoria & Mapperley Practice since 2005, having held the role of senior partner for the last ten years.

Since 2016 Husein has been a founder and director of the Nottingham City General Practice Alliance, a GP federation of over forty practices. In this role he has developed the City GP+ Enhanced Access service, delivering 85,000 evening and weekend appointments annually since 2018, and other clinical services including the Clinical Management Centre during the pandemic, long-term condition catch-up services including spirometry, innovative vaccination programmes to engage with asylum-seekers, the homeless and those suffering with severe multiple disadvantage, and Winter Access/Acute Respiratory hubs.

He has worked for Nottingham City Place-Based Partnership since 2020, becoming the Clinical Director of the PBP in 2023. In this role he brings together multiple partners from our health and social care systems and the community and voluntary sector to address health inequality across the population of the diverse city of Nottingham. Together with colleagues from Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust he has led the Primary / Secondary Care Interface Transformation programme for almost three years, with over 70 programmes of improvement work now underway or completed
