Director of Workforce Strategy and Planning

Jo Lenaghan has over twenty-five years’ experience of developing and delivering strategies in the NHS at national and regional level. Her roles have included working in the Strategy Team that produced The NHS Plan in 2000, six years as an Exec Director at SHAs in the West Midlands, four years as Chief Adviser to the then CEO of the NHS, Sir David Nicholson, followed by ten years at HEE as Director of Strategy and Workforce Planning, leading seminal work such as Framework 15, as well as secondments out to lead on national strategies such as The Five year Forward View. 

She was seconded to Birmingham and Solihull ICB for a year, where she worked with local leaders to produce a comprehensive workforce diagnostic and strategy, before being appointed to her current role in NHSE. As the NHS England representative to the group, Jo is now working closely with the DHSC to develop the People Workstream of the Ten Year Health Plan which will help build a health service fit for the future. Jo is committed to helping us understand the potential impact of demographics, genomics and AI on both demand and supply, so that the NHS can better meet the needs of future staff and patients.
