Paula Almeida

Community Champions Lead, Level Up

Raised in the historic town of Guimarães, Portugal, Paula was deeply inspired by her grandfather, a visionary leader and founder of Camport in the manufacturing industry. Witnessing his leadership and innovation firsthand, she developed a passion for driving meaningful change through compassionate leadership.

Paula began her career as a specialist biomedical scientist in cancer diagnostics, working across prestigious NHS hospitals, including University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, Queen’s Hospital, Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Her expertise in pathology and cytopathology played a crucial role in improving diagnostic accuracy and enhancing patient outcomes. She also worked to advance population education, advocating for the importance of early detection and precision diagnostics

Paula contributed to Civility Saves Lives alongside Clinical Lead Dr David Shelton, reinforcing the critical link between professional culture and patient safety.

Driven by the belief that leadership can transform both patient care and workforce well-being, Paula transitioned into healthcare management through the reputable NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme.

Now, she plays a key role in the Lead Provider Collaborative, supporting the commissioning of specialised mental health services across the North West. She is committed to developing person-centred, financially sustainable solutions that improve patient care while reducing avoidable escalations in care. By championing innovation, psychological safety and prevention-focused initiatives, Paula is helping to shape a healthcare system where individuals receive the right care at the right time - reshaping the future of health.
