NHS Confederation writes to the Chancellor over NHS pensions taper
In the summer of 2019, the Prime Minister announced three steps to address the impact the annual allowance and taper were having on patients, as doctors sought to avoid unexpected and large tax bill.
Since then guidance has been issued by NHS Employers to allow NHS employers to take action to mitigate the impact during the remainder of 2019/20 financial year.
However as yet there has been no substantive response from HM Treasury about the third commitment to develop options to reform the annual allowance and taper in ways that would promote the delivery of public services.
To that end, Niall Dickson, chief executive of the NHS Confederation, has written to the Chancellor to urge him to act 'with urgency'.
