Final decision on booster vaccinations needed without delay
Responding to the announcement that people most vulnerable to COVID-19 may be offered a booster vaccination from September, Ruth Rankine, director of primary care at the NHS Confederation, said:
“NHS leaders will welcome the interim steer from the JCVI on who should be prioritised for COVID booster vaccinations in the autumn and that this is likely to include health and care staff, as well as those who are most vulnerable to serious illness and death from the disease.
“The COVID vaccination programme has shown the NHS at its best, with more than 65 million jabs given so far. However, pressures are rising across all parts of the NHS, so it’s vital that as much notice as possible is given on what the final decision will be, in collaboration with local leaders, so that systems can plan what’s best for their communities.”
