Letter to new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care: Rt Hon Steve Barclay MP
The chair and chief executive of the NHS Confederation wrote to Rt Hon Steve Barclay MP on his appointment as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The letter welcomes him back to the role, offers support and intelligence from members and highlights how things have changed in the NHS since Mr Barclay was last in this post in the summer and sets out the key operational difficulties the service faces.
The letter asks the Secretary of State to advocate for the importance of investing in the NHS and social care for the long-term sustainability of the service with the Chancellor ahead of his Autumn Statement, where he is expected to make cuts to public services.
