Recruitment drive echoes NHS organisations’ efforts

Danny Mortimer, chief executive of NHS Employers and deputy chief executive of the NHS Confederation, responds to the call for people to join the NHS.

Commenting on the joint call for people to consider joining the NHS, as the health service marks its 73rd anniversary, Danny Mortimer, chief executive of NHS Employers and deputy chief executive of the NHS Confederation, said:

"Employers will welcome this national call, which echoes their own efforts to recruit to the fantastic range of careers in the NHS. The health service has struggled with vacancies for too long, and we hope this campaign will help to remedy that, offering career prospects to young people and eventually helping to relieve pressure on staff, who work so hard to care for our communities.

"It's important to stress there is a whole range of roles that make up healthcare teams, and NHS organisations are committed to diverse entry routes into careers. For example, NHS Employers works with the Prince's Trust to make it easier for young people to find work in the NHS.

"As we’ve seen throughout the pandemic, across the health service, thousands of people have already stepped up, and we look forward to seeing that continue as a result of this campaign, in the many and varied roles the NHS has to offer. We also look forward to commitments from the government on investment to grow and sustain the workforce."
