On 1 October 2024, the Minister of Health in Northern Ireland, Mike Nesbitt, launched a reconfiguration framework for NI hospitals, with a view to creating a hospital network that can achieve better outcomes for all. Under these proposals, hospitals are placed into four categories and not every hospital will be expected to offer every service. In the recently announced three year strategy for health and social care in NI, the Minister has committed to developing a programme of work by April 2027 to take forward hospital reconfiguration.

This webinar is an opportunity to collectively analyse and discuss the reconfiguration proposals before the public consultation on the framework closes on 28 February 2025. We will be joined by Peter Jakobsen, Director of Health Service Transformation, DoH, who will share his insights with us before we have a general discussion on the changes and what they mean for the future of the HSC system.

This session is being held as part of NICON's 'Grasping the Nettle' webinar series, which will run throughout 2025. The series will aim to build on the momentum and theme of the NICON24 conference, held in October 2024, during which we explored what nettles need to be grasped to drive progress within the health and social care system in NI.
