Layla McCay named in Attitude’s 101 list of LGBTQ+ pioneers

The NHS Confederation’s director of policy, Dr Layla McCay, has been recognised as a top 100 LGBTQ+ leader, as part of Attitude 101 – a list of 100 LGBTQ+ pioneers and changemakers.
The list recognises LGBTQ+ trailblazers across all areas of life, and spans ten sectors including media; the third sector; finance; business and sport. Layla features in the STEM category.
Layla has made a huge impact in leading LGBTQ+ inclusion in all aspects of her work. She founded, and is executive sponsor of, the NHS Confederation’s LGBTQ+ staff group. Through meetings, all-staff discussions, policies and organisational-wide blogs and videos, this has increased LGBTQ+ visibility, allyship and belonging.
She also is executive lead of the NHS Confederation’s Health and Care LGBTQ+ Leaders Network, which includes over 2,000 LGBTQ leaders, aspiring leaders and allies working across health and care.
Layla chairs and speaks on a range of public platforms – and role models visible diversity and authentic, inclusive leadership. She has also written a book called: ‘Breaking the Rainbow Ceiling: How LGBTQ+ People Can Thrive and Succeed at Work’. which explores the barriers that exist for LGBTQ+ people within the workplace.
Layla said:
“I am so honoured to have been included in the Attitude 101 list. My book, Breaking the Rainbow Ceiling, looks at the challenges that exist for LGBTQ+ people in leadership roles – so it’s brilliant to be on this list with so many other inspiring LGBTQ+ role-models.
"It’s really important to me to be a visible LGBTQ+ leader, so thanks to the NHS Confederation for supporting me and for enabling all its staff to thrive. I will continue to champion LGBTQ+ inclusion in all that I do – and do my best to live up to this wonderful recognition!”
